Friday Gun Porn: The STURMGEWEHR 44 assault rifle

Welcome to the first addition of the Socialist Free Gun Porn. This Weeks Centerfold the Sturmgewehr 44 the granddaddy of all Assault Rifles.

The StG-44 is one of the most important guns in the history of firearms due to the fact it created a whole new class of military firearms. It also started the idea of less is more in battle rifles as it actually used a smaller sized round than your standard battle rifles. Every assault rifles in use in the world today is an off spring of the Stg 44.

One can only shudder when you stop and think what the German Army would have been able to do if they had been able to start World War 2 fully armed with this gun.

There is a raging argument over is the AK-47 a copy of the StG-44 I for one believe the StG-44 influenced the AK but the AK is not a direct copy they are very different inside.

I have never been fortunate enough to shoot a StG-44 they are very rare and since they are full auto capable you need special permits to possess one(Which is a violation of the 2nd amendment no matter what the Supreme Court says)

I would rate this gun high on the Zombie Repellent List due to its high rate of fire coupled with enough power and accuracy to get the job of stopping a horde of zombies done. The only draw back in this gun is the ammunition is not very common it would hard to find ammo for it in a zombie infested world.

So there you go this weeks gun porn, the StG-44 a gun that changed how modern armies fight.

Friday Grumps Gun Porn Sigarms SHR970 addition

This Friday's Centerfold is my favorite hunting rifle in my vault, the Sigarms SHR970 in .30-06 aka in my house as the "Black Gun"

It is a Bolt Action rifle coupled with a Leupold Scope which when coupled with the Federal ballistic tip rounds I shoot is a death ray I can actually shoot a 3 shot "dime" cluster at 100 yards with this gun when totally dialed up to go out West for a hunting trip(A dime cluster means the 3 bullet holes are close enough together that you can cover all three with one dime)

The gun was designed and built in Switzerland and the parts work like a fine Swiss watch when I was looking to buy hunting rifle I looked for 6 months and the moment I worked the bolt action on this I knew I had found my rifle it was like butter smooth as a baby's butt ;)

I would have to rate this gun right in the middle of the Zombie Repellent List. While it is laser accurate it only holds 4 rounds and you have to work the bolt between each shot. Now if you were on the roof of building sniping zombies it would be great but not the best gun if they are breaking into the room you and your family are hiding in.

It fires the .30-06 round the same round that was used by our Great Great Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers to win World War 1 and by our Great Grandfathers and Grandfathers to win World War 2 You could use this gun to pretty much hunt any living animal that you could find on the North America Continent. The round might be a bit light for a lot of the stuff in Africa but it could still be used for a lot of the things over there like Antelopes and Springboks.
The gun set up in its Western Hunting configuration notice the bipod

The Lovely and Lethal PJ of the Confidentials blog putting rounds down range with it
PJ fell in love with this gun I was worried I would have to wrestle her for it at the end of the day ;)

I like to use pictures of PJ as an example to other woman who are curious about shooting to show you do not need to be a large human being to shoot a lot of these guns PJ is pretty tiny and she had no trouble. So if you are a smaller human being do not let that stop you from taking up shooting.

So there you go this weeks Grumps Gun Porn is the Sigarms SHR970 Rifle

Friday Grumps Gun Porn: The Magnum Research BFR in .45-70

This week I give you a true "Hand Cannon" The Magnum Research BFR(Big F-cking Revolver)in .45-70. While I do not currently own this gun I used to I sold it to a friend who fell in love with it. So I have shot this gun a number of times.

This gun is a hoot to shoot it shoots a rifle cartridge the .45-70 which at one time was the standard round of the US Military. It is a very powerful round which was made famous as the round that killed many of the Buffalo taken on the Great Plains back in the late 1800's

To give you another example of how powerful the .45-70 round is a lot of guides out West carry "guide guns" that fire this round for protection from Bears and Mountain Lions.

Shooting this gun makes shooting my .44 magnum seem like shooting a .22 or 9mm

If you look at the photo you can see how big the cylinder is for holding the shells see how long it is due to it has to hold a much longer rifle cartridge.

I was able to find a nice home video someone was nice enough to put on Youtube

I personally never had much trouble with the recoil due to this gun is heavy and that tends to eat up a lot of the recoil.

Zombie Repellent rating: Medium to low the BFR only holds 5 rounds and is single action you must manually cock it after every shot. Now the round will most likely cut a Zombie in half, but I would not want to be taking on a mob of flesh eaters with this gun though if it ran out of ammo you could grab it by the barrel and use it as a very heavy and expensive war club ;)

This gun is not for the faint of heart but for those of you that love to hunt with hand guns you cannot go wrong with this Hand Cannon.

So there you go this Fridays installment of Grumps Gun Porn. The Magnum Research BFR in .45-70

Friday Gun Porn A Day Early: The M1 Garand

I will be on the road to Minneapolis Tomorrow bright and early for the Regional Gymnastic Meet that will be held at the U of M this weekend(NCAA Men's tournament is also going on at the same site if you are in the Twin Cities this weekend and like Gymnastics stop in)So I thought I would post the Friday Gun Porn a day early since I know it would be missed by some people really dear to me if I missed a Friday ;)

This week I give you the M1 Garand the main battle rifle of the United State Military for World War 2 and Korea. This the gun your Great Grandfather and or Grandfather carried ashore at Normandy and Iwo Jima. This is the gun that helped save the world from madmen like Hitler and Tojo

It fired the same .30-06 round as the 1903 Springfield rifle it replaced. It held 8 rounds that were loaded through the top of the weapon with a stripper clip. If fired only in Semi-Auto ie every time you pulled the tripper it fired one shot then you had to pull it again for the next shot.

This is a solid heavy gun I have shot these and they weigh a ton you could beat a Nazi to death with it and not hurt the gun. It was a real war club.

I do not own one but it is very high on my Need It list.

The First photo gives you a good view of the stripper clip that was used to load the gun.

You live in a free country pretty much because this gun. There is not much more you need to say.

I would rate this gun High on the Zombie Repellent list: It makes up for only carrying 8 rounds with its accuracy and stopping power and the fact you can grab it by the barrel and smash zombie heads with it when you run out of ammo ;)

You could go into battle with a lot of worse weapons than the M1

Friday Gun Porn: The Springfield Armory XDm in .40sw

Behold this weeks Centerfold, This is the newest addition to my stable. The Springfield Armory XDm in .40sw mated with a Streamlight TLR2 tactical Laser/Flashlight. It is now my home defense gun it resides in the hand gun safe next to my bed.

View from the right side with the slide closed and the laser attached.

A close up of the TLR2 which is a tactical laser and flashlight for you nonshooters it puts out the red dot laser sight and a very bright beam of light. These things are great once aligned with the gun the laser sight allows you to hit where ever you put the red dot and having the flashlight on the gun frees up your other hand. So hitting a head shot on someone wearing body armor becomes much easier.

That fact also places this gun high on the Zombie Repellent list.

The only real issue I have had with this gun is trying to find a holster that allows you to keep the TLR2 attached but I finally found one it is a tactical holster ie built to Military/Law enforcement specs I have to get off my ass and actually order it.

So there you go this weeks addition of Gun Porn

I think I am really going to like this serial post the scary/wonderful part is I can go a month or two before I have to use a gun that isn't mine ;)

Friday Grumps Gun Porn: The Kentucky (or Pennsylvania) Long Rifle

This week I am going to go very old school like Revolutionary War old school. The Kentucky Long Flintlock Rifle aka the Pennsylvania Rifle. These was the rifle of the common man in Colonial America. And let me let you in on a little secret that would horrify people like Grumps Keith and Capper. It was the Assault Rifle of its day. That's right most Colonial Militia Men were better armed than the British troops they were fighting. Imagine that private citizens better armed than the troops of the most power Empire of the day. These rifles could shoot farther and with more accuracy than that smooth bore "Brown Bess" Musket the average British trooper was armed with.

This is an important fact to remember that when the Liberals try to argue the intent of the Second Amendment. The Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment in a time when a private citizen could own weapons that were more powerful than the ones the government used. That is why I am sickened every time I hear of a Liberal saying only the Police and Military should have guns. The Founding Fathers wanted a situation where the Government had to respect the power of the common man and was supposed to remember who worked for who.

Back to the Rifle most Kentucky Rifles shot .50 cal musket balls this was a single shot weapon, but due to the rifling inside its barrel was deadly accurate out to ranges over 150 yards in the hands of a frontier rifleman. Remember these men(and women) used these rifles to defend themselves and to put food on the table. They grew up from a very young age shooting these guns and were damn good with them.

These guns used black powder and had to be reloaded by hand after every shot a multi-step process that once learned could be done very fast by a skilled shooter.

This was the weapon that help win America it's freedom then helped push out the frontier. To be honest it is one of the most important machines every used in the history of this nation.

The Kentucky Long Rifle
A powder horn used to "keep your gun powder dry"
Colonial Solider armed with the Kentucky Rifle
Close up of a Flintlock
Classic view the Kentucky Rifle in its natural element, the American Woods.

My father owned one of these he built it by hand out of a kit, I always loved the look on peoples faces when you lit one of these off at the range there is a distinct roar and then a huge puff of black smoke as the gun sends the musket ball down range. I have not shot this gun in years though by I might start again just so I can pass on a piece of American Heritage to my sons.

This gun would rate extremely low on the Zombie Repellent Scale due to the slow rate of fire and due to its length it would be hard to fight inside a house with it. But if you needed to feed your family in the post Zombie world you could do it with this gun.

So this week our Grumps gun porn gun is the Kentucky Rifle the weapon of the American Minute Men.

A personal Admin note

When I returned to Political blogging after a long hiatus, I made a promise to myself. I said I would not interact with the bloggers on the left because I knew it was very stupid waste of my time and effort.

As you can see I broke that promise and once again I had to learn the lesson the hard way that trying to interact with Socialist bloggers is a waste of time.

So I am going to start keeping that promise to myself Friday Gun porn will no longer be known as Grumps Gun Porn just plain old Gun Porn and our cool new Zombie Bait feature will go back to being just Zombie Bait.

The Socialists will be free to comment here but I personally will not reply or interact with them. To use the phrase "They are dead to me"

I got back into political blogging to interact with the people on my side of the spectrum or the people who might be on the fence and can be brought into our camp.

Arguing with a flock of assholes who are as set in their beliefs as I am set in mine is a total waste of my time your time and even their time.

So I am going to try and personally get back to doing what I intended to do when I came back here.

I apologize for falling back into that trap and if I start to do it again feel free to remind me I am falling off the wagon again ;)

Thanks
Chris

Friday Gun Porn: The Winchester Model 1897 Trench Gun

In honor of the Chief Flynn and his "Troops" of the MPD turning in their shotguns for assault rifles. I choose the Model 1897 Trench gun a 12ga shotgun first used by US troops in World War 1

US Marine carrying a model 1897 in WW2

I find it funny in a way the article makes it seem like the shotguns they are turning in are pop guns. The only draw back with shotgun is range other than that they are just monsters in close quarter combat.

To give you and example of how scary the Model 1897 was when the Marines started using them when they attacked German trenches in 1917, the Germans were scared shatless by that gun. They tried to get it outlawed as inhumane. Think about that the people who were using Poison gas wanted this shotgun outlawed because it was just destroying their troops when the Marines got into the trenches with it. Seeing a US Marine coming at you with that gun and its bayonet must have just put the fear of god into the German troops. Well for that second or two that they were still alive ;)

That story always makes me chuckle.

Friday Grumps Gun Porn Mak-90/AK47 addition

First a special announcement I have decided to name this Friday Feature in Honor of our number one anti-gun wet your pants liberal Grumps. This is a working title so if you can think of a better title that keeps Grumps name in it let me know :)

On to this Fridays Centerfold

The Mak-90 in 7.62x39mm

This is the Chinese made version of the AK-47 but the civilian version it does not shoot in Full Auto.

This one is mine and I just pimped it out this summer.

Below you long time readers of my old blog will recognize it in it's old configuration with that nasty ugly post ban stock and wooden fore grips.

I had those removed and went to a telescoping stock and black synthetic fore grips and a new pistol grip hand grip. The fore grip also can have rails put on so you can attach things like tactical lights and laser sites but I do not have them on at the moment.
Below you can see it with the stock telescoped fully out. It is now one size fits all
I have three sizes of magazines for this gun
The short 5 round clip I use for hunting, Yes Grumps I have used this gun deer hunting.
The standard 30 round mag for use during Civil Unrest or Revolt ;)
And the Bid Daddy, The 75 round Drum Mag for use during Zombie Infestations.

I personally just love the Mak-90/AK47 I think it is one of, if not the best gun ever designed, simple rugged reliable. It is the perfect balance of firepower and simplicity. It was designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov a man who if he had been born in the West would be mentioned in the same breath with John Browning, Samuel Colt and the Mauser Brothers.

You could lay this gun in a mud puddle for 3 days pick it up pour water down the barrel to clear it, slap a mag in and it will work.

If you came to me and said "Chris tomorrow society is going to fall apart and you can only choose one gun to protect you and your family"

I would choose the AK-47 without a seconds thought, it is the one right answer.

Another reason I loved this gun is because it is the Boogy man gun when it comes to the left they see a photo of the AK and they just wet their pants and go fetal. You have to love something that has that kind of physiological effect on the Socialists LOL. They think it is some kind of death ray which is really funny when you stop and think that I have photos of tiny little Phelony Jones blasting away with this gun.

So there you go in Honor of Grumps the Mak-90/AK-47

Friday Grumps Gun Porn: The Marlin Youth Model .22lr

Sorry for the lateness of this post the boys had the day off of school and we slept in ;)

I am going to the other end of the gun vault this week. From the my Sturm Gewehr to my oldest sons single shot .22 rifle.

These are the most important guns in the vault the ones that teach our children how to safely shoot and introduce them to the shooting life.

This rifle is a Marlin .22 Youth Model. As you can see it is a single shot bolt action. For you non shooters that means you must cycle open the bolt and reload it every shot. It has no magazine so it is a true single shot.

My oldest son who is 8 has been shooting this rifle since he was 5 years old under strict adult supervision. He has finally grown into the rifle and can shoot it with the stock in his shoulder now. He is now one of the safest shooters I know he will even scold adults for not using the safety on their guns. My guess is he has put close to 750 rounds down the barrel of this little tack pounder. He will sit and shoot all day if you would let him. I pity the squirrel and rabbit population when he is old enough to be unleashed on the woods ;)

I had to laugh a while back when Tank Johnson of the Bears was arrested in Illinois for some trumped up gun charge and the media kept making such a huge deal that he had 500 rounds of ammo in his house lol what a piker only 500 rounds hell my Son has over a 1000 rounds of .22 ammo down in the vault at this moment(it comes in blocks of 550 known as bricks) Now my son cannot access this rifle or the ammo without me since I keep it locked up when not in use along with most of my other guns. Just to put you anti gun bed wetters to easy.

Little guns like this are important in ways most anti gun nuts could not understand they will never know the joy of sitting and just banging away with a gun like this when you are a little kid. It also is a pretty tame gun when it comes to recoil and noise so smaller kids can get accustomed to the noise that goes along with shooting. That is not a problem with son he has been around deer camp when we bring out the cannons and he has never flinched at the noise he just talks about how cool it will be when he is big enough to try the "Big guns"

Teach your children well get them shooting at an early age so they can have gun safety and proper handing of guns drilled into them till it becomes second nature.

Plus you never know you might need the little ankle biters help when you go out to loot ;)

A proud parent of a junior American Rifleman.

Friday Grumps Gun Porn: The 12ga Stroger Coach Gun

A the classics never go out of style. What you see below is my mighty little, kick like a mule 12 ga coach gun. I bought this shotgun off a buddy back in the late 90's. I tried it at the range and hit 24 clays in a row with it I promptly turned to him and said I am taking this home how much do you want for it? He promptly named a fair price and I bought it on the spot.

It is a double barreled shotgun with the barrels set side by side it is also rare because it actually has two triggers one for each barrel, newer double barrels usually only come with one trigger. Take a look at the pictures and you will see what I mean.

It is a breech loader as you can see, it breaks open to be loaded and unloaded
it only holds two shots at a time so you have no margin for error.
A close up of the two triggers that feature of this gun usually blows people away. I was shooting sporting clays once with guys who had $5000 shot guns but were not very good(It was a pick up foursome at the range a buddy and I paired with these two doctors) I was on a roll when I missed a bird because I got my chubby little fingers tangled up trying to switch triggers. I turned to my buddy and laughed and said "couldn't find the second f-cking trigger" He laughed and then we both noticed both guys staring at my shotgun I do not think they had ever seen a two trigger gun like this before.

it is a great gun a little heavy and it does kick like a mule since it is not ported or vented, it actually leaves a nasty bruise on my shoulder after a full round of sporting clays. But since it is so short it is easy to work through the thick brush you must bust through while grouse hunting.

I would also rate it pretty low on the Zombie Repellent list yes the 12 ga shot will remove a Zombie head no worries, but the fact it only holds 2 shots could be problematic at best.

But like the hot woman with the ugly husband, some times love is not based on looks but on how reliable something is and this gun has never let me down, it is simple and easy to use I bet even Grumps could handle this little baby. ;)

I have 6 12 ga shot guns and only my Beretta gets out of the vault more than this baby.

So there you go the Stroger Double Barreled 12 Gauge Shot Gun this weeks Centerfold.

New Weekly BBA feature: Friday Gun Porn

We had very good luck at my old sports blog with a weekly feature so I am hoping to capture a little of that with this weekly feature.

A lot of the guns that we will picture here on Fridays will be out of my vault but I will also try and show case guns of our readers when ever possible(so get your cameras out)

So I will start with one of my favorite guns that I own.

I give you the Ruger Super Red Hawk in .44mag 7.5" barrel.

As you can see it can also be equipped with a scope that is a Leupold Shot Gun sight mounted on it.

This is my personal side arm(scope removed) anytime I am in the woods Up North, I like to think of it as Grey Wolf Repellent and after this hunting season also as my last best hope of surviving an encounter with that Black Bear that is on our property.

I would also place it high on the Zombie Repellent list.

So there is your Gun Porn for this Friday The Ruger Super Red Hawk.

Friday Gun Porn: The Maschinengewehr 42

This week I give you one of the best Machine guns of World War 2 the German The Maschinengewehr 42 or MG 42 a gun that would go on to influence the American M-60 machine gun of the Vietnam and First Gulf War era.

Like the US .50 cal in the US Army you found the MG-42 being used in multiple roles in the Germany Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe it was used on Aircraft Vehicles and carried by the ground pounders. The Gun had super high rate of fire and was used through out the entire war by German forces. Like the AK-47 the MG-42 has a very distinct sound if you have ever heard one shoot you know instantly what it is.

As is mentioned in this video the MG-42 carried such a physiological punch that the War Dept made a training film to try and down play the "fear factor" of the gun.

A second video that also address the fear factor of the MG-42

RIP Buddy

Please bear with me as I say good by to a long time hunting buddy who passed away this week.

My best friend's German Short Haired Pointer Buddy died this week. It is weird Buddy was always the "puppy" I have been hunting with for over a decade my children named their first dog after him. He was called the rubber band dog you wound him up and he just went and went he would hunt all weekend till you and he fell over. His passing was another reason I chose the gun I did for this weeks gun porn since that gun and this dog spent many hours with me in the woods.

RIP Buddy

Chris
