Friday Grumps Gun Porn: The Kentucky (or Pennsylvania) Long Rifle
This week I am going to go very old school like Revolutionary War old school. The Kentucky Long Flintlock Rifle aka the Pennsylvania Rifle. These was the rifle of the common man in Colonial America. And let me let you in on a little secret that would horrify people like Grumps Keith and Capper. It was the Assault Rifle of its day. That's right most Colonial Militia Men were better armed than the British troops they were fighting. Imagine that private citizens better armed than the troops of the most power Empire of the day. These rifles could shoot farther and with more accuracy than that smooth bore "Brown Bess" Musket the average British trooper was armed with.
This is an important fact to remember that when the Liberals try to argue the intent of the Second Amendment. The Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment in a time when a private citizen could own weapons that were more powerful than the ones the government used. That is why I am sickened every time I hear of a Liberal saying only the Police and Military should have guns. The Founding Fathers wanted a situation where the Government had to respect the power of the common man and was supposed to remember who worked for who.
Back to the Rifle most Kentucky Rifles shot .50 cal musket balls this was a single shot weapon, but due to the rifling inside its barrel was deadly accurate out to ranges over 150 yards in the hands of a frontier rifleman. Remember these men(and women) used these rifles to defend themselves and to put food on the table. They grew up from a very young age shooting these guns and were damn good with them.
These guns used black powder and had to be reloaded by hand after every shot a multi-step process that once learned could be done very fast by a skilled shooter.
This was the weapon that help win America it's freedom then helped push out the frontier. To be honest it is one of the most important machines every used in the history of this nation.

My father owned one of these he built it by hand out of a kit, I always loved the look on peoples faces when you lit one of these off at the range there is a distinct roar and then a huge puff of black smoke as the gun sends the musket ball down range. I have not shot this gun in years though by I might start again just so I can pass on a piece of American Heritage to my sons.
This gun would rate extremely low on the Zombie Repellent Scale due to the slow rate of fire and due to its length it would be hard to fight inside a house with it. But if you needed to feed your family in the post Zombie world you could do it with this gun.
So this week our Grumps gun porn gun is the Kentucky Rifle the weapon of the American Minute Men.
