"The Starfish" Posts

I've been following and linking to the story Jessica McBride has been telling about "Sam," the young man from Milwaukee's Central City. Part 1 sets the stage by giving details into Sam's background; Part 2 tells how Jessica and her husband, Waukesha County DA Paul Bucher, interacted with Sam; Part 3 tells gives the ending to Sam's story, not a happy one because of a choice he made.

For the record, my job involves providing supplemental instruction to at-risk students in Milwaukee Public Schools; my employer has a contract with MPS and is funded by the No Child Left Behind Act. For all I know, "Sam" could have been one of my former pupils.
