Re: "We leave the paws on so people know they're getting a raccoon, not somebody's house cat"

Hehehehe,

With fancy eating places in New York City serving up insects I would hardly think raccoons would be out of bounds. However, I advise that you cook the meat of omnivores and carnivores to a temperature of at least 165° F and possibly even hotter.

How many here are okay with lamb & mutton, let alone raccoons? The funkiest meat I have had (and know of) is probably turtle & I guess by the reaction of my fellow diners that one day, squid (I have had prepared in ways other than calamari). Perhaps I have had some fido too, but no one mentioned it to me. I am certain I have had goat and camel as well.

Bon Appétit!

San Francisco's Soda Tax

Here comes the Food Nazis once again.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom wants to impose a tax on soft drinks to fight obesity. Yawn. Ho-hum. Is there anything a lefty won't tax for your own good?

Newsom also wants to compel all big box retailers and chain drug stores to pay into his "Shape Up San Francisco" program.

The state of California also wants to post a warning label on all drinks containing caffeine.

For those of us who told you that they wouldn't stop with just smoking, I have just one thing to tell you: We told you so.

This is the creep of institutional fascism. It all starts with small "common sense" proposals that no one can be against, supported by "It's for the children" and away we go. Incrementalism. One step at a time.

These people will not stop until they are into your houses, telling you what you are and are not permitted to eat or drink and consume in any manner. Never mind the fact that most of them support the legalization of drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, etc.

They won't stop until everything of which they disapprove is taxed to the hilt, regulated and controlled or banned outright. Unless we tell them "Enough is enough."

Whitelaw Sausage Company

Some of you may know of the little village called Whitelaw in Manitowoc County. The little village of Whitelaw used to have a general store and butcher shop called The Whitelaw Sausage Company and they made excellent bacon and wieners. I recall seeing their wieners being sold throughout northeastern Wisconsin. In fact, I know Whitelaw Sausage Company Wieners have been enjoyed worldwide! However, the company fell on hard times, went through a number of different owners and finally closed shop.

However, that has changed! Not only is the Whitelaw Sausage Company open, they now have an online shop! The old general store is gone and now the Whitelaw Sausage Company specializes in quality meats & cheeses. The wieners are top rate and while Appleton has a good old style sausage company the Whitelaw Wiener is a superior product.

Now, I have no financial ties to the Whitelaw Sausage Company, I just want to make everyone aware of a great product and make sure my supply of the good stuff does not go away!
