Visitors dig up safe from sand in Lake Delton

First Lake Delton spectators found guns, now new searchers found a safe.

They trenched around the object because it was below the water table and water was seeping into the hole they were digging. After a few hours of digging they pulled the safe from its resting place in the lake. "We found the safe on July fourth. It took three hours to dig it up, one broken shovel and a trip to Wal-Mart for a new shovel…

Fountain said the door of the safe had been pried off, leading Fountain to assume it had been burglarized. "We Tried two more days to find the safe door in that area but were unsuccessful."

The safe was old, Fountain said, estimating it was of a type built in the early 1900s.

...The Fountains called the Lake Delton Police who came and picked up the safe.

I wonder if they’ll get to keep it once the cops are done with it. I’d want to keep it.
