An Affront To Common Sense
An ad campaign that plays frequently via WIBA AM out of Madison (I listen to it via streaming audio during the 11:00 - 2:00 time slot) just offended common sense. Of course, it states a truism.
Did you know those with big feet are better spellers? While older people have bigger feet they are also more educated. It is the education that is the causitive factor and not bigger feet. Bigger feet correlates with better spellers but does not cause the effect.
Anyway, the ad claims every year hundreds of infants exposed to cigarette smoke die; that is they are attempting to make people think there is a causitive link in every one of those hundreds of deaths. Now, I do concede a couple may die due to second hand smoke but I would guess more die in automobile accidents than due to the smoke.
Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy, but unfortunately effective.
