NBC's Search for Racism
Charlie Sykes notes yet another story about NBC's search for racism at a NASCAR race.
If you haven't heard about this yet...well, this is probably your first visit to the blogosphere. If that's the case, read this:
Read this, too - some hilarious ideas for other "news stings."
And then read this. Doesn't look like NASCAR fans took the bait. Good for them.
Here's my question: will NBC report it if nothing happens? If they find no evidence of racism, no epithets, no flying tomatoes, no references to towels or camels or whatever, will they report that?
Will they report on how polite and welcoming NASCAR fans were?
My gut says no. My gut says that if there's even one incident, no matter how inconsequential, stupid, or unrepresentative of the whole, NBC will present it as proof that racism is rampant.
Prove me wrong, NBC!
