Oconomowoc city council votes down TUD

Bowing to heavy public pressure the Oconomowoc city council voted 8-0 to kill the Transportation Utility District. The TUD was a measure that would have charged every property in Oconomowoc a Transportation Fee to help fund needed road repairs. Under this plan even nonprofit organizations such as churches would have been required to pay this fee. This was a reversal by the council which had voted in October 5-3 to approve creating the TUD as part of their fiscal 2006 budget

When I left at 11pm the city had not approved the 2006 budget but it appeared that the 500,000 dollars the TUD would have provided would be made up by a property tax increase . I will confirm this in the morning and expand on this post.

Once again the first city in Wisconsin to consider creating a TUD voted the measure down 8-0

Update: I decided to place my extended post on the TUD over at Spotted Horse because most of the issues outside of the idea of the TUD are local Oconomowoc issues. So if you want more information on this issue come on over.
