The Effect of The Smoking Ban in Appleton.

I have heard a bit about the smoking ban that just went into affect here in Appleton.

One report (IIRC it was from the radio) had a fellow coming down from Green Bay to shoot pool in a non-smoky atmosphere. They also had people complaining about the ban. Late last week we were in a Grand Chute tavern and (it was the first time I had been in that establishment on a weeknight, so no idea about if they were up or down in patrons) and a friend of mine works there. However, I have not yet asked her if she has noticed an uptick in business since July 1.

A buddy of mine visiting the same establishment heard gripes (shortly after the ban was passed) how they thought smoking was prohibited in bars. My buddy had a field day pointing out the silliness with that one (though did not tell this lady off).

I fear we are going to see more and more of these. When trying to talk to people about this the sides usually get divided up along pro-anti cancer lines. Who wants to be on the side of "pro-cancer". Yes, as one who opposes these bans I know the argument really is not about cancer but....

Sooner or later the Madison crew is bound to get jealous and want to pass a statewide ban.
