The Green Bay Press Gazette puts up a story about a restaurant owner getting sent up the river:
We need to hear more of this and we need to focus on those who hire and encourage the illegal immigration.
I recall hearing of this case from the get-go the part about the killing of Susan Gong, however, I did not expect this to take an immigration twist. In fact, I thought this story was about another restaurant in Green Bay that was reported to hire illegals, provide them with identities, and then put the workers into indenture to pay for the papers. The story I recall hearing was someone down south noticed funny numbers on their social security statement and an ID theft investigation was launched. However, I have heard nothing of that case since those reports.
Yu Tian Li, 45, was convicted in January of two counts of harboring illegal immigrants for private financial gain and commercial advantage. No news on the immigrants thusly harbored, but since it seems one killed Li's wife he is probably in one of our fine Department of Correction facilities.
U.S. District Judge William Griesbach on Wednesday ordered Li to serve two years on supervision after his release from prison and pay a $10,000 fine. Griesbach also ordered the seizure of Li’s home.
The jury found Li allowed two Chinese nationals to live in his home while they worked at the China King Buffet. In his sentencing decision, Griesbach noted that Li harbored the workers while he was on probation for an unrelated battery conviction in Brown County Circuit Court.
Li's wife, Yuechan "Susan" Gong was killed in 2004 by an employee of the restaurant who lived in the couple’s home.
We need to hear more of this and we need to focus on those who hire and encourage the illegal immigration.
