Marcus, I believe David Horowitz tries to follow a tight leftist-liberal seperation similar to what you are discussing. On the pure ideological plane, I agree with you. I don't maintain the seperation very closely in my own writing because on the rhetorical plane, leftists had long ago claimed the mantle of 'Liberal' as their own. It hasn't been until recently, after they had made 'Liberal' a pejorative term that they began seeking to be called "Progressives." As for me, I'm content to continue to hang the pejorative 'Liberal' around their neck because they are the ones who made 'Liberal' a bad word.
