Re: Towards more conservatism from Republican Party of Wisconsin

Ronald Reagan once said something along the lines of I would rather come from the table with a half-loaf than no loaf that is politics is not about getting everything you want but as much as possible.

There is much disgruntlement with the RPW and the GOP in general. I see the much used statement about "being tired of voting for the lesser of two evils" instead of being able to vote for perfection. There are three answers to that one. First is the lesser of two evils is–less evil than voting for the greater evil. The second is a greeting: welcome to the real world. The third is your perfect candidate is yourself, anyone else is bound to be the lesser of two evils.

Remember, our laws are interpreted and executed by lawyers. I have been part of the RPW resolution making process on the county and congressional district level. At the congressional district level we would niggle over one word and you can be sure the lawyers who will enforce enacted laws/amendments etc will look over those words very carefully and will use any weaknesses in those words to advance their agenda.

James Sensennbrener is no RINO or CINO (unless of course, you believe Mark Green is a RINO/CINO) but has been called out for not supporting the passage of bills popular with conservatives. In at least two cases he was taking a principled stand in making sure the best law got passed. Mr. Smart the father of that young woman from Utah (whom was kidnapped by the nutter and lived in the caves with him and his other wife) called Mr. Sensennbrener to task for not supporting a bill that would give more protection to children. Well, the law had a subtle flaw in it Mr. Sensennbrener wanted to correct.

During the Terry Schiavo debate Mr. Sensennbrener held up a bill designed to save Terry on the same grounds. I recall that one, it had huge wiggle room in it due to one word. James wanted to use the word that matched the intention (in any event it did little good).

Now, of course, some Republican legislators voted against the TPA due to their opposition to the underlying principals, but remember the father of this drive opposed the TPA because it was just no good at doing what it wanted to do.

One commentator said they wanted a proper revolution, a revolution from the outside. Well, that defies the definition of revolution. Revolutions come from within when it comes from the outside it usually falls under category of war.

If you don't like what the RPW is doing than it would be a much better idea to join your county org and getting your ideas advanced. We are writers, I bet your county organization is using the same old tired resolutions they used for years. You could liven 'em up and write you own. Get them accepted and push 'em on up.

Heck, a year before Frank proposed TABOR I had it accepted as OCRP resolution and it passed. It made it though the 8th congressional district committee meeting and then I lost track of it.
