Update: Help the sister of a DUer
Bluto quotes the Washington Times story; I'll share the whole thing in order to give you history and get you up to speed about Jib's post, "Help the sister of a DU'er":
A Texas hospital has agreed to delay taking a severely ill woman off life support, following a failed plan to transfer her to an Illinois nursing home.
St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital had invoked the state's futile-care law, which allows hospitals to take some patients off life support with 10 days notice to the families, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Andrea Clark, 54, has been hospitalized at St. Luke's since November. She has a history of heart problems dating back to her birth in the 1950s as a blue baby who had heart surgery in infancy.
Glenshire Nursing & Rehab Center in a Chicago suburb had agreed to accept Clark as a patient but withdrew the offer Friday, saying her medical problems are beyond the home's capacity to handle.
Clark's sister, Lanore Dixon, has been fighting to keep her on life support and continue treatment.
"I'm so exhausted, I don't know what to think now," she told the Chronicle.
The hospital has scheduled a meeting of Clark's medical team Tuesday to discuss the case. They will be joined by a doctor who has been identified by Texas Right to Life as a candidate to take over Clark's case.
Keep Lanore Dixon in your thoughts and prayers - she has a long way to go, including the work to heal and rehabilitate her sister.
