Quick Civics lesson for M/L/P's

Do not be fooled by the National in National Guard, Those troops are STATE TROOPS under the command and control of the Governor of the state where their unit is based. Unless the Guard is FEDERALIZED those unit are not under the control of the President. Example it was Governor Doyle who is sending 500 Wisconsin Guardsmen to help in the South not President Bush.

I cannot take anymore of the Bush didn't order the guard in fast enough chant coming from the left side of the Blogosphere. Simple rule regular Military = President Bush National Guard = Governor of the State. So if anyone didn't order Louisiana Guard troops into New Orleans fast enough it was the Governor and Mayor of New Orleans. They should have made that call.

I just thought of a great example of this, In 1957 Orval Faubus the governor of Arkansas used NATIONAL GUARD(state)troops to stop blacks from attending Little Rock Central High. This forced President Eisenhower to send in the 101 Airborne(Federal)troops to enforce the Supreme Court Order that the school be desegregated. See state troops vs federal troops
