Does UW Baraboo/Sauk County need a dorm?
There may be a new captain at the helm, but the course will remain the same. That was University of Wisconsin-Baraboo/Sauk County interim Dean Dr. Thomas Pleger's message Wednesday as a committee discussed plans for the school's proposed dorm, which could be up by fall 2011.Members of the Living and Learning Center Development and Building Committee gathered to get their ducks in a row before a Sept. 7 meeting with the UW-Baraboo/Sauk County Campus Commission — the group that halted plans for the dorm last month. Commission members questioned school administrators' ability to raise funds for the estimated $5.5 million project after its main proponent, former Dean Michael Brophy, left Aug. 1 to take another job.
My first instinct is to say that none of the 2 year UW campuses need dormitories. After all, unlike the UW 4 year campuses, these are not regional schools. They are 2 year schools for local students that may want to continue on to get their bachelors degree at one of the state universities. There would seem to be a demonstrable lack of need given the local student base. If you can explain to me why a UW 2 year campus needs a drom, please do so in the comments.
