A Fair Treatment.
I watched NBC's Dateline show tonight where they shared the Avery-Hallbach murder case with the nation. I watched it via DirecTV and am very disappointed with DirecTV's description of the episode, it made it sound like the only people in jail around here are the wrongly accused and neglected to say anything about a murder.
It was fair, it featured most prominently the rape victim from 1985 that was the one who wrongly fingered Avery (yes I don't believe that conviction to be correct, but IMO it helped some other woman survive). They talked with the guy whose DNA did turn up and of course he denies involvement.
They let on to all the morbid details of the case and Brenden Dassey the nephew is now a national figure.
I was a little bit suspicious they were going to try and portray Avery as a guy who snapped due to 18 years of being in prison for a crime he did not commit, but they did not do it. Over at Captain's Quarters last November they were talking about the case. One commentator made the observation that of 163 people sprung by the Wisconsin Innocence Project, Avery is the second to face new charges. Avery did not snap in prison.
