Re: Marcus' Cartoon Riots

Now that the heat is on, some are taking a stand that opposes the caricatures, such as the Chicago Tribune's op-ed piece today calling them "juvenile" and a "stunt," and using Garry Trudeau (liberal scribbler of Doonesbury) to decry irresponsibility in free speech.

Back in September/October the cartoons were juvenile and a stunt. Even one of the cartoonists involved recognized that! One of the cartoons has a rock labeled "PR Stunt" hitting Mohd in the head. Now it is a legitimate news story and The Chicago Tribune is doing their readers a disservice by not giving them the complete picture.

Tee Bee, did the editorial let its readers know about the bogus cartoons?

There is a lot of credibility (see The Belmont Club for more on this angle) in the discussions going around that certain nations are using this cartoon conflagration to slap Europe back into its place. Namely Syria, and most notably Iran. Think about it, the most serious violence and protests have been in Syria and Iran (not to forget Lebanon where Syria probably still has a lot of intell operatives) and protests do not happen in those nations without government approval.

None are so blind as those who refuse to see.
