RE: How much is enough
First, it's back to be amongst the living again after an outrageous Opening Day.
Second, very nice tax post. Everything you say is true enough, including the 75-80% tax. What really makes me laugh is the constant harping by leftists about the "overpaid CEO's." What these brilliant minds all seem to forget is that we live in a market based economy. In such a supply/demand world there is no such thing as overpaid or underpaid. While we all imagine ourselves being worth millions of dollars we are only worth what the markets will bear. As such a guru like Jack Welch is worth "whatever it takes" because he is literally one of a kind. What the left can't understand is that in addition to corporate giants, "the world needs ditch diggers" and there is no excuse for a $20 an hour unskilled laborer. Sorry, that's just how it goes.
What I also found interesting is that GBfan is a perfect example of taxations productivity/employment disincentives. Wisconsin is losing an intelligent and seemingly diligent individual that appears to add plenty to our societal productivity simply because the state has a tax rate outrageously disproportionate to the population base. A fantastic example of these disincentives are currently on display in Germany and France. These economies are quickly running themselves into the ground, because the outrageous taxes and socialistic benefits (afforded them because of their alliance with the greatest military power in the history of civilization) make it foolish to work in these countries.
With all this talk of raising taxes for the sole reason they haven't been raised in awhile and creating homeless slush funds it is no wonder GBfan finds it absurd to remain productive (in an economic sense, no offense meant).
Now, can someone please help me down from this soapbox, I'm still a tad wobbly from Monday.
