Double standard?

Yesterday when the story broke about how Marquette University prevented the College Republicans from raising money to support an effort that would help troops in Iraq and Afghanistan acquire specialized, non standard issue equipment, they gave as their reasoning, “the specific nature of this fundraising activity was not consistent with the university’s mission“. They also said “[T]he Office of Student Development has a well-known process in place to review the nature of proposed fundraisers and activities in order to ensure that they are in line with the University’s Catholic identity. The university had significant reservations about the rhetoric associated with this particular group. In the context of the university’s Jesuit, Catholic mission.“

BUT!

The Gay/Straight Alliance is sponsoring a Rose Sale this Valentine’s Day. You may purchase 1 rose for $1, 6 roses for $5, or 12 roses for $10!! The sale will take place on the main level of Cudahy Hall, in the lobby area closest to Coughlin Hall between 8 and 4.

The last time I checked, homosexuality was “not consistent with the university’s mission” as a Catholic Institution. Is this fund raising drive “In the context of the university’s Jesuit, Catholic mission"? Not in the Catholic Church that I was raised in.
